Count attendance with 人次

人次

réncì

How it works

人次 counts instances of participation, attendance, or service. One person who takes part on three occasions contributes three person-times, although there is still only one distinct person.

This measure is useful in reports. State separately whether a figure counts unique people or total participations; the two figures need not be equal.

The pattern

number + 人次

Example sentences

三个人各参加两次,共六人次。

Sān ge rén gè cānjiā liǎng cì, gòng liù réncì.

Three people participate twice each, making six participations in total.

该活动累计有一百人次参加。

Gāi huódòng lěijì yǒu yī bǎi réncì cānjiā.

The activity has recorded a total of one hundred participations.

Pinyin generally shows dictionary tones; tones can change in connected speech.

What to watch for

一百人次 does not prove that one hundred different people attended. Repeat participation may be included.

Try it

Five people each attend twice. How many 人次 is that?

Show answer

十人次。 Shí réncì. Ten participations, involving five distinct people.
