Expressing “Multiples” with “bèi”
倍
How it works
倍 (bèi) is used to express multiples, such as two times, three times, and so on.

Number + 倍 (bèi)
Example sentences
这个房间比那个房间大两倍。
This room is three times as large as that one.
今年的人数增加了一倍。
The number of people doubled this year.
他的工资比以前高了三倍。
His salary is now four times what it used to be.

Usage note
Distinguish the total from the increase: 是…的两倍 means twice as much; 比…大两倍 means three times as much in total. 增加一倍 means the original amount has doubled.
