Measure Words with “zhè” and “nà”

这 / 那 + 量词

How it works

When 这 or 那 is followed by a noun, a measure word is usually needed.

这 / 那 + Measure Word + Noun

这本书很好看。

Zhè běn shū hěn hǎokàn.

This book is very good.

那个人是我朋友。

Nà ge rén shì wǒ péngyou.

That person is my friend.

我喜欢这家饭店。

Wǒ xǐhuan zhè jiā fàndiàn.

I like this restaurant.

For the full beginner pattern, use 这 / 那 + measure word + noun. Short forms such as 这书 and 那人 also occur in conversation.
